At Knighton Mead, our music curriculum ensures that all pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions.

Children will learn to sing and use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others. They will have opportunities to learn a musical instrument including focused Djembe drumming lessons from Year 1 to Year 6.

In Years 3 and 5, the children will complete a unit of work based on a performance piece for Orchestra Unwrapped. This is followed up with a trip to De Montfort Hall to sing alongside a live orchestra.

Children will understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
