At Knighton Mead, our music curriculum ensures that all pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions.

Children will learn to sing and use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others. They will have opportunities to learn a musical instrument including focused Djembe drumming lessons from Year 1 to Year 6.

In Years 3 and 5, the children will have opportunities to perform in different contexts such as Orchestra Unwrapped and Masses Singing however all children will sing together in the weekly Singing Assemblies.

Children will understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
