At Knighton Mead Primary Academy we aim for our children to become competent, responsible, confident and creative users of technology. We hope to prepare our pupils for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Computing is central to the curriculum and is integrated into all subjects. To ensure this, we have a range of ICT resources across the school such as iPads, laptops and Beebots as well as interactive whiteboards installed in every teaching room which allow us to create visually stimulating lessons and provide greater opportunities for interactive learning.
As children are becoming more and more exposed to interactive media, we highly value the importance of online safety. It underpins everything we do in Computing and is a core focus from EYFS through to Year 6, ensuring children know how to stay safe online.
National Curriculum Aims
The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:
- can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
